Mackerel

The season for mackerel starts in first part of August with the hooked catched mackerel (small boats with quota for 50-100 tons). Later in September, on the coastal vessels, the big purseiners start catching. Normally, Norway also get mackerel catched by trawl from foreing vessel during January and February (Scotland, Shetland, Ireland and Faroe Island).

Most of the mackerel is graded in different sizes according to the markets request and frozen as whole round in 10 or 20 kg cartons.
