Herring

The season for herring starts in North of Norway in September (north and west of Lofoten). For 2010, the quota is set to be around 900.000 tons – a reduction of 100.000 tons.

At this time, the fat content is at its peak. During late Autumn the herring is preparing to move south for spawning and is developing roe and milk for this. Normally, they start on the long trip to the spawning area in January and starts this action in end February in the area Aalesund to south of Bergen.
